Bike books as presents

I suppose it’s a bit odd to suggest bike books for presents on 27th January. But hey, the vast majority of us have birthdays this year. And those of you who are married might possibly have an anniversary.

So here goes: what would be good presents to give for a cyclist who has not-quite-everything?

How about ‘Escape Routes’, which has a fantastic set of photographed and mapped rides all round the UK? The photography is brilliant. A great present.

You could even team it up with ’100 Greatest Cycling Climbs’, which has marks out of 10 and a brief description of the most challenging hill-climbs in Britain.

Then there are the travel cycling books, such as Blue River, Black Sea, the story of a bike ride along the River Danube, or Cycling Home from Siberia. Really good books.

Or you could go for funny bike books. I like Edward Enfield’s books very much: Downhill All The Way (France), Freewheeling Through Ireland, and Dawdling by the Danube.

I may be a bit biased, but there are also these:

Of course there are also presents you might buy for yourself…

What about that ride you’ve thought about? The Loire?
